The Surprise

The Surprise

First I would like to tell something about my first week at my workplace. I work with

disadvantaged kids who are between 12 and 17 years, the name of this place "Caffi". This centers' task the development and care of preschool children and family members with disabilities. This is implemented through social activities, education and nutrition. They help for the kids another way like in Europe, because they teach them how they could be self-confident, how they can solve their problems, how can enjoy their time all together. This kids learn the basic things about the life, but i think it is the most important. But i speak about it later and i give an examples..

At my first workday we met - Tony from Spain and me - with the teachers and the director and all together we spoke about our plans, our activities. We had to decide what we can do in this two monts with the children (because this time is not so much) and what we can give for them exactly. After this meeting the volunteers were present to the kids, so in this day we just took a look and tried to understand what happening at this moment. This situation was surprising and amazing in one piece. I was surprised because this childrens (and the teachers too) can't speak in English and I can't speak in Spanish, so i have to find another way to communicate with them. This moment was amazing too, because they don't care about this communicational differences (only me). In this informal school are the kids very open-minded and helpful with me. So that is the question.. Do i help for them or do they help for me?? Maybe two months later i can answer to this question, but not now.

Next workdays (Tuesday and Friday) were free, because of "the holidays". Every other volunteer had to go to work these days, but my team had free time. I was very happy because I celebrated my birthday on Tuesday, what a coincidence. First week w had a lot of activities and meetings (claro, it was great but tiring), so this day I just want to go for a walk or sightseeing, nothing special. Only one obligation was in my timetable, meeting in Mario's house at 7:30 p.m. I didn't know exactly what they wanted to work at night, but I didn't care about it. I got used that they live differently that we live in Hungary. Everybody in Uruguay wake up later, fall asleep later, and they have a dinner at 9 p.m.

So Ángela and me walked to the house to the meeting where we had to speak about the activities in the "Camp". When we arrived there, Ángela opened the door and then she turned the lights on. Everybody who work in this project -from Europe and from Uruguay too- were in the living room and sang the happy birthday song in Hungarian. I was surprised and shocked at the same time. Everybody took in something to this birthday party, so I am very thankful for this experience. Somebody decorated the house, another one baked the birthday cake and another person bought me the present... and everybody lied to me :).

A meglepetes

Eloszor is a munkaban toltott elso hetemrol szeretnek meselni. A megvalositas soran szocialis programokat szerveznek a fiataloknak, illetve specialis tanulasi folyamatban vesznek reszt.

A megbeszeles utan bemutattak minket a gyerekeknek, aztan probaltuk felmerni a terepet es probaltuk felfogni, hogy eppen mi is tortenik valojaban. Szoval felmerul a kerdes... Akkor most ki segit, kinek?

Itt mindenki keson kel, keson fekszik es keson is vacsorazik.
