May 2017

Third month in Thailand. Another month of novelties. With the end of April we finished project in the jungle and we moved to Hat Yai. For a couple of days we were cleaning a small plot, just right in downtown of Hat Yai. Behind this place stands a great idea, till now it was used by people living around as a garbage dump, hopefully in future it will become an eco garden, connecting local community and indicate them advantages of growing fruits and vegetables by themselves. We had also the opportunity to visit a couple of ecological farms close to Hat Yai, that are standing as examples of sustainable agricultural works for other plantation in all province.

Another great May experience was spending time with students of Thaksin University. We went with them to Ton Nga Chang waterfall and visit them at their Faculty of Economics. We could present and share with them information about culture and economics of our countries. It was so interesting activity, I wish we could spend more time with university students.

Second half of the month was given to moving to Songkhla. In the middle of May in Thailand starts new school year, so do we start our next big project. Me and Rosa we chose Ban Bangdan school in Songkhla. At the beginning we had to set everything up. We had to discus about our timetables and way how the classes will look like. But all the teachers and director are rally supportive and children are so lovely that we just look forward for working together.

This month was also good chance to show that volunteering is not only working on hard projects but also culture exchanging and discovering this part of the world. As I mentioned we had possibility to go to wonderful place that is Ton Nga Chang waterfall, but also during our free time we went to famous Ao Nang and Phuket - where we could see different side of Thailand, bit more touristic but also charming one. Also May was a month when we head to Malaysia to extend our visas. Again opportunity to see more and new - Thai neighbor is so different than Thailand itself! Mixture of Chinese, Indian and Malay. Georg Town, Kuala Lumpur and Melaka are really fascinating cities with beautiful architecture, great street food and nice street art.
