3 months in Nepal

March.

On March 1st we started the "training" course in the office of V.I.N. In the 8 days that the course lasted, we talked about our project expectations, they talked about the Nepalese culture, they gave us Nepali classes and the last day they separated us by groups of works, to give us the specific information of each project, in There were 6 EVS volunteers and 3 different projects (cildren clubs, women empowerment and washt). Together with Bart (a European volunteer of Polish origin and my project partner) I went to a meeting with the person responsible for VIN of my project, there in two hours he informed us about the work we had to do for 5 months. I forgot a lot of important things so when arriving at Taluwa we saw quite lost.

On March 8th after eleven hours of travel on a road, which is defined as a Nepali road, we arrived in Taluwa. We were assigned three families, one for each project partner. Well when I arrived and saw the different lifestyle of the people of Taluwa that I have been carrying for 26 years shocks and impresses very much. It is totally understandable to be afraid at first because you do not know anything and it is all new, but on the other hand I had a lot of interest in that lifestyle, and a desire to prove myself mentally and physically, so it has not been difficult for me to adapt ...

The first month and a half told me that my partner and I were going to work on the construction of a school and the rest of the months we would dedicate them to Children Clubs. The first day we were grouping stones that formed an old ruined school with the intention of reusing the material for another new construction. During the work days of the first week we were doing this. The next week we went to the same place but they tell us that the work is stopped, waiting for materials. The materials never arrived.

April.

During this month, not to be bored my partner and I decided to accompany Marina and Clere. (Were the women empowerment project) We were helping in English classes and computer classes. During this time we were also preparing posters to try to dynamize the information that VIN had given us when we exposed the students and teachers. We were planning to start this month with our Children Clubs project but in the end between the time of student examinations, school holidays and local elections, we did not have the opportunity to start attending schools.

May.

This month we started going to schools. We went first to a school where the father of the house where we are staying worked. It was not easy to work with these students since the information we had was for older children, in this elementary school, the eldest student was 10 years old, Podam (the father of our lodging house) helped us to translate the information We spoke in English to Nepalese. I do not know what we would have done without him!

The second school we visited is located quite far from where we live, with a drop of 500 meters, with steep slope and very steep road, so it was quite hard to come and go everyday walking. On arrival we contacted the English teacher, who accompanied us during all classes and was translating the information to the students. In this school the students could understand the information better than in the first school. At the end of this school we had to return to Kathmandu to renew the visa and start our vacation. During our holidays we were doing the most impressive trekking of my life by the Annapurnas. Awesome.
