Hola, I will start with simple introduction. My name is Pisacha or here’s Sacha and I come from Thailand. I landed in Spain at 1st of April. Now I’m living in Lorca, city in the southeast of Spain. Even though I used to be an exchange student in United State for 1 year when I was in High School but right here, right now is another story. Different time, different place, different culture and pretty much everything.
I always think that it’s good idea to get yourself out of comfort zone. You will think that you’re able to do it easily but it’s only in your head. Until you actually doing it then you will find that they are more harder than you think and more challenging as well. Now, I far more than get out of comfort zone, I throw myself of comfort zone without realizing it. Simply metaphor is like taking a medicine, it’s not always taste so nice but at the end it’s good for me. Only different is I didn't have to take medicine to cure anything but I create and developing something inside me.
One month and 12 days to be exact. First week here is participate with youth exchange to get to know more about how everything work. Also having a chance to be with the youth is the new perspective and from here I learn about the culture of many country such as Lithuania, Macedonia, Latvia, Italy and also Spain.
From the first week that been surrounded by so many people, here come the second phrase that I have to learn how to live. It’s not as hard as it sound but everything still very new for me. Let’s start with the weather, Everyone know in Thailand is very hot and humid. I know ahead that I will come in the almost summer time so I didn’t think it will be so cold. It’s not during the day but at night it can get very very cold. This simple thing can affect your day even though it’s not seem much.
Since I come here I went out for drinking in a week more than I did one month in thailand. It’s more casual to go out and drinking 1-2 beers like talking over the coffee. Also going out at night is very late as well.
I’m lucky enough to be here for Semana Santa which is big deal here in the city. All those parade and decoration are amazing. Many people participated in the show from kids to elderly.
For me it’s very incredible even though I’m not totally understand all the ritual behind all of the parade and costume but I still able to feel all the energy that come through people both participate in the parade and the audience.
Let’s talk about food, typical Spanish dish for breakfast. ‘Tortilla’ which has potato and eggs. Mostly in Thailand we have rice in pretty much every meal so It’s not major different between breakfast, lunch and dinner. Even though we’re mostly cooking at home so pretty much I can cook whatever I want. With the different ingredient so not exactly everything I want. Some of the vegetables here I have no idea what it is and also some ingredient that don’t have here like in Thailand so here’s where the word ‘fusion’ begin. Not only with food but also with everything that happening so far. Sooner or later I have to learn how to cook with only the ingredient I have here because now I’m still using the privilege of the ingredient I bring from Thailand. The privilege of used to get the food so easy in Thailand (By easy I mean we have so many street food and some place open until morning) which now living in another country make me see it more clearer than ever before.
My first month here is still in the part of comparison with thai culture and along with trying to learn with understanding. When the thing is start to blend in it make so much sense and that’s why I would like to keep learning and experience everything. Things are come and go. I’m not going to be the same. To overcome my fear is when I realize that it’s not the fear at all.
