It´s over now! After six months full of emotions, our journey comes to an end. Along the way we have had so many experiences, both good and bad. The good ones will always remain in our hearts, and we have definitely learnt from the bad ones. In my humble opinion, I believe that Nicolas from France and I have achieved so much through teamwork. We have managed to leave our imprint in a school that very few know. It is part of Lima, but is somewhat lost in the eyes of tourists and even the State itself. There is hardly any water or electricity, and don´t get me started on the internet.

Together we have succeeded in getting girls and boys to learn how to work together, regardless of gender norms, age or culture. We have tried to instill a love for the environment so they can observe the world around them, and be good examples in the society.

I have always been motivated because of them, and I am happy for what we have done. Above all, I am grateful for what they have done for us. The children have given so much more than words can explain. Now I leave with a broken heart, but also a renewed one. I will always be thankful to have been given this opportunity.

Our project will continue in Santa María Reyna school in Quebrada Verde. I know our grain of sand made a lasting impression. How did we achieved it? Who was our support?

I speak from our experience in the EDUCATING FOR THE FUTURE PROJECT! The Brigada de Voluntarios Bolivarianos del Perú; our host organization, got us into contact with the school, just as they provided us with materials needed to work there. So far, that's all. I write this to help potential volunteers, in so far as giving you the right information. The organization BVBP did not aid us further than what I previously mentioned. Frankly, it was very dissapointing.

If you really want to do something like this, only you can make it possible. Do not put all your reliance in an organization like the one I worked with, as I didn´t even receive a real assignment. Though, regardless of mismanangemnt and mistakes, us volunteers cannot be held responsible for any wrongdoings, because we are there to help. That is our mission. I only realized this simple, yet vital objective in the last three months of the project. Better not to mention the first three, in which at another State school they were attempting to take advantage of the fact that we are volunteers, and continue overcharging students who attended our English and French classes.

However, in spite of everything, we persevered. We gave our best selves every day, and committed to helping the school in Quebrada, and most of all its students. What we got, fortunately, goes beyond Organizations, or anything material.

As a final farewell, I will finish by saying,

Good luck to all. If you really want to help, do it! Do not wait any longer!
