Singing everywhere

If there is one thing that Chinese people really love, is singing everywhere. And that´s why there are hundreds of KTV (Karaoke’s) where ever you go. It doesn’t matter how small is the city, village or house… You will find a room with two microphones for singing you best Chinese hits¡ (or sometimes even Spanish).

Because of that, every year we celebrate in our school a singing competition, where some teachers and students take part on it. In my case, my voice is not very good, but another teacher convince me for preparing a performance together.

Once you are on the stage, you don’t care if you are singing one or two songs, in English or… even in Chinese¡ Yes. So during one month I’ve been preparing myself every afternoon in the library for singing a Chinese song in front of all my students.

The Chinese songs name is something like “让世界充满爱”, which is about friendship. The English song that we choose was “Image”, from John Lennon. We wanted something very easy, and understandable by some of our students.

The day arrive, and we realize that we will be opening the singing ceremony¡ Hundred of students arrive with their chairs, and of course in front of us, the judges¡ (teachers). Yeap, I could feel like if I was in “X factor”, “The voice” or some program like that.

We start with one speech asking the students for not throwing garbage everywhere (as they use to), and after some laughs about my pronunciation, we sing the two songs. Not bad at all. J

The rest of the participants were amazing. A lot of students have a very good voice¡ I can’t imagine doing something like this in my school… we are so shy at this ages right?

Once more, another amazing experience in our school¡. Next step, sports competition, where will be a running race between all the teachers¡
