About the project
1. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The overall aim of the project is to develop the model of empowerment of young people (especially NEETs) though volunteering on the international and local level.
The specific objectives of the project are strictly connected to the implementation of the overall aim and are the following:
• to improve the expertise of the partnership, to enable them to work with NEETs more efficiently
The project target a group of youth workers who through the participation in the training will share the best practices and develop the common strategy of empowering NEETs via volunteering.
• Support unemployed young people and NEETs, and particularly those in long-term unemployment to build competencies that will give them better chances to be included in the labour market;
The project’s main target group are 18 unemployed young people who will participate in EVS, and at least 20 young people per partner country who will benefit from local training and local volunteering. The expected change within this group is gaining experience-based learning to be transformed to competencies, which will increase their chances to find a job and break out the circle of long-term unemployment and discouragement. Some of these competencies include intercultural learning, foreign language, teamwork, sense of responsibility, learning to learn, etc.
• To contribute to the development and empowerment of local volunteering structures in the partners countries
By the end of the project each partner will make the outreach to the potential local volunteers, and will offer them training and support. In this way the objective with contribute to the problem identified of the high number of NEETs and unemployed youth. Moreover the capacity of the partner organizations will increase.
• Enhance active citizenship on local and global level within a group of traditionally passive (long-term) unemployed young people;
The competencies that the main target group of young people will gain are not just limited to labour market requirements. Through its global dimension and its methodological approach, the project also strives to support a sense of active citizenship. The project will support building sensitivity and awareness on global and development issues. As a result, the direct target group are expected to come closer to the idea of global citizen active both on local and global level.
• Support development efforts in communities much in need in countries outside of Europe;
Reaching out to countries outside of Europe, the project will also enhance the development efforts of the EU, also in the light of the European Year of Development 2015. On one hand, the work of the European volunteers abroad will support the development of the local communities where all the local services are grass-root and have a clear impact on the local communities. On the other hand, through supporting a trans-continental partnership, the project also disseminates European policies and practices in sphere of learning and development of young people.
2. THE HAPPY MODEL
The project will be based on the non-formal education and global learning methodology. In addition there was a new model developed to increase the social engagement and active citizenship – the HAPPY model.
HAPPY stands for:
Help. The volunteer’s main task is to run a project in support of the local community. Volunteers use their time, energy and competencies to help those most in need, while at the same time helping themselves.
Absorb. The volunteering services should be done in a way to support the learning of the volunteers at a maximum in various personal and professional competencies..
Participate. Apart from their regular projects (usually service-oriented) the volunteers should be engaged in at least one other action as a manifestation of their activeness.
Promote. The volunteers that do volunteering services in another continent are perceived as ambassadors of global change. They will promote both the idea of volunteering as an act of active citizenship and the idea of sustainable global development.
Youth. Activities fitting the interests of the young people, being youth-friendly and fun!
